What We Can Learn And Model From Novak Djokovic

In this blog, I wanted to share an interview that I saw with tennis great Novak Djokovic conducted by Lewis Howes.  I was completed moved and amazed what Novak has accomplished on and off the tennis court.

For those that do not know Novak Djokovic, he is one of the greatest men’s tennis players of all time.   He has been # 1 in the world for 4 years this decade.  He is a winner of 12 major titles.  He held all 4 majors consecutively for the first time since Rod Laver since 1969.

What I didn’t know about Novak is that growing up in Serbia, he and his family went through two wars.  The 2nd of the two wars, forced Novak and his family seek an underground shelter at his aunt’s house.  In addition, his family waited in line for milk and bread for hours.

Novak also heard and felt bombs and talked about how difficult it is not having control of your own environment.  Fortunately, he did not lose any family members.  However, he knew of many Serbians who did lose family and created thousands of refugees.

Instead of becoming a victim and creating a negative story, Novak became very grateful for going through this traumatic experience.  Novak became much more appreciative of his life.  Appreciation and being blessed became his story.

Here are the principles and take aways on Novak’s beliefs.

  1. He loves and appreciates his wife for her honesty and devotion.
  2. He stated that everything happens for a reason.
  3. Clarity: he knew he was going to be number 1 tennis player in the world.  He even created a Wimbledon trophy and visualized being the champion as a young boy.
  4. He became an ambassador for Unicef helping provide shelter for refugees in Serbia.
  5. He defines hatred and revenge as prisoners of their own emotions.
  6. Biggest lesson from war is to always be kind to anyone and everyone because you can never know what another person is going through.  There is God that guides us and will prosper as long as we appreciate and respect others.
  7. Adversity in his tennis career in 2010, where Novak considered quitting the game.  He was number three in the world and wasn’t happy.  His was not winning titles.  His best friend asked him to forget wins and losses and asked him if he still loves the game.  Once Novak knew he did, he became number 1 in the world and winning 43 consecutive matches.  Loving the game became primary and winning trophies became secondary.
  8. Happiness is from the inside.  Inner peace and happiness is the ultimate goal.
  9. Learn to breathe, so that we can stay in the present.

Novak’s three truths are:

  1. Live Freely
  2. Breathe Deeply
  3.  Love Fully

Lastly Novak’s definition of greatness is to find your purpose.  If you find your purpose, you will give purpose to others.  We will maximize our life experience if we find our purpose.

Why Losing Eventually Becomes Winning!

Losing serves in many ways.  It not only serves on a level of achievement or significance, it also serves us emotionally and spiritually.

One of my favorite athletes of all time is men’s tennis legend Pete Sampras.  When Pete came up in the men’s tour, he became an unknown who won the U.S. Open at age 19.  That is the youngest men’s champion ever at the U.S. Open.

Success came too soon for Pete.  After that big win, Pete was lost and overwhelmed with all the fan and media attention he was receving.  As a result he struggled for about 18 months.  Pete was a great natural talent, but not a competitor.  Two years after winning his first U.S. Open, he found himself back in the finals.  Pete’s mindset was that he was happy with the two weeks and was okay making the finals.  What Pete did not have was the hunger to win the match and eventually lost the match with a 6-2 loss in the 4th and final set to Stefan Edberg.  Pete admitted that he did not dig deep and do the things he needed to do to win the match.

Here is how Pete described it:

“It changed my whole mentality, when I kind of gave up in that fourth set,” he recalled during a morning press conference. “I just promised myself I would never let that happen again. I knew exactly what I wanted. I wanted to stay No. 1. That 1992 loss to Edberg was the wake-up call that I needed to really figure this thing out.”

This loss bothered Pete in a big way.  Pete said that he willl never give up in a match like that.  As a result, Pete became completely dedicated to his trade and went on to breaking many records including a record at the time of 14 majors.  In addition, Pete became the #1 player in the world for six consecutive years.

To this day, Pete says this loss is the greatest event that ever happened to him.  He would have never won 14 majors nor go on to have a the hall of fame career that he had.  Thus, one loss became thirteen majors.

Now, I know not all of us are tennis players and athletes.  I know that I have had many major setbacks that have turned out to be incredible blessings.  I remember not getting a promotion in 2003 and felt I deserved one.  By not getting promoted, I ended up meeting my wife Carmen.  Of course, I don’t know where my life would be without my bride.

As Tony Robbins says, “Those who succeed tend to party and those fail tend to ponder”.

What disappointments and challenges are you going through right now?

How are the disappointments in your life setting you up for winning moments?

How is losing getting you to take your life to the next level?

Feel free to comment below.  I would love to hear from your responses.

State Of Gratitude. What Are You Grateful For?

Mid to late August is my favorite time of the year.  I don’t know what is because we are nearing the end of the summer, and it is getting slightly cooler.  What I love about it is the days get slightly shorter and how the sun sets at between 6pm and 7pm is breathtaking.

This year is special because I am about to check off another item on my bucket list in a week.  I am about to go on a vacation (holiday) to Paris.  Paris, France has been a place that I always wanted to go.  I will also have the opportunity to go to Athens and Satorini, Greece and Milan, Italy on this trip.

It also has been such an incredible summer getting my business started, knowing that my family is happy and healthy.  I also was able to celebrate many of my family and friends celebrate milestone birthdays.

It is not like my life is perfect either.  I have some great challenges going on.  I am extremely busy in all areas in my life.  I have had some trying moments as well.  I even lost a high school classmate a week ago.

As I heard from my mentor Tony Robbins, “where focus goes, energy flows”.  If I focus on that my summer has been incredibly amazing that is the result I have.

What are you grateful for in your life at this present moment?  Are you dwelling on your problems?  Or are you living each moment feeling blessed?

The Benefits of Attending Seminars and Mastermind Events

I get asked many times on how come I spend my time off from work attending seminars. My answer is always to grow, contribute, and to take my life to the next level.

Here are the benefits of attending seminars and mastermind events:

  1. Creates a safe place.
  2. Gain Momentum.
  3. Expands your life.  Takes your life to the next level.
  4. Never done learning.
  5. Connection.

For creating a safe place, we have the opportunity to open up our well.  It allows us to go deep within ourselves to open up.  We open up to others at the seminar.  We discover who we actually are.  We do not change.  We become ourselves, and a seminar allows us to do this more than any other place and environment.

Momentum is also acquired where we get revitalized and energized to go out to world and continue take action and stretch ourselves.

Expanding our life also results from attending seminars.  Prior to my first Tony Robbins seminar, I was a struggling employee and had not had a relationship in 18 months.  After attending the event, I was named employee of the month and promoted twice within a year.  I also met someone within a month after Tony’s event.

Also we never stop learning.  Life is always moving forward and we need to move forward with life.  We have seen too many examples of where many have not anticipated nor move forward like: Sears, My Space, and AOL.

Lastly attending seminars creates connection.  Many call it building a network, and I believe that does occur.  However, I believe it goes deeper than that.  We share deep and personal items with each during events.  As a result, we build lasting friendships as well as attendees meet their future husbands and wives.  Also, many create peer groups and mastermind groups at the events as well.

I will leave with a quote from Warren Buffet:

“Invest in yourself as much as you can.  You are the biggest asset by far.”

Four Reasons Why I Am Making Health A Bigger Priority In My Life.

For the last month, I have reevaluated my health.  I have watched two documenaries on Netflix that have had a profound impact on me.  The documentaries are “What The Health” and “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead”.  Both documentaries have given me a wake up call on my health, where it currently is, and where I need to be.

The four reasons for why I have decided to improve my health are:

  1. It gives more energy and vitality, especially throughout the day.
  2. It improves mood swings drastically.  With the body free up of the stress of constantly digesting processed and concentrated foods, it will feel lighter.
  3. It gives more time of the day and requires fewer hours of sleep.
  4. It will add 20 more years of your life and reduce the costs drastically of doctor bills and medication.

For energy, I will be able to work on my business and will able to serve my clients on a higer and much more efficent level.  I will also be able to get through the day with vitality, joy, and ease with less stress.  More energy also makes us more productive.

Mood swings of course will enhance the relationships with our significant other, family, friends, colleagues, clients, and even people we just came across.  By having less of a mood swing, one will have much more influence as well.

For me having more time of the day is knowing I can get my day off on the right foot.  I can have my mornings to spend time doing my morning ritual where I can thank my creator for giving me the gift of life.  I can spend that time getting my workout and meditation.  For others, it could be staying up an extra hour either spending time with their loved ones, friends, or watching a tv program such as the late night talk show.

Lastly, I am not a doctor nor a nutrionist.  Yet, there are plenty of resources around us to know that eating healthy will not only add years on our lives on a quantity perspective, but also on a quantity perspective.

I hope you will join me on this journey to living a healthy lifestyle of great balance of nutrition, wellness, and exercise.

I would love to hear from you on what your health rituals are.

Gratitude: The Beginning and Foundation to Wealth and Happiness

I wanted to take a moment to write about the beginning and foundation of wealth and happiness: Gratitude.

Gratitude to me is the foundation of excellence, wealth, happiness, and living an extraordinary life.

Intellectually, I knew what gratitude meant.  Even sometimes I would tell someone to “be grateful”.  Yet if gratitude is not applied or practiced, one does not know anything about gratitude.  I was one of those who did not know what is gratitude.

My journey to gratitude began six years ago channel surfing and finding a program called “Excuses Begone” with Wayne Dyer.  I really immersed myself into the program and watched it again.  I remembered Wayne Dyer from an interview many years back with Tony Robbins.

I then starting searching YouTube on Wayne Dyer as well as others like Tony Robbins and Marianne Williamson speak on gratitude.  Since I was taking in so much information, I bought a notebook and started writing down passages and notes on what I am grateful for.  Before I knew it, I felt more alive than I ever have.  I was smiling and saying “hi’ to strangers on the street.  I found myself interacting with close ones much better with more joy.  I also found myself to be much more productive and profitable in my business.

My practice would become and still to this day is to write down what I am grateful for.  I usually complete this in the morning.  I then will watch an inspirational YouTube video of something inspiring and listen to some music to get in a state of gratitude.

Here are the eight benefits of gratitude.

  1. It naturally makes you want to give
  2. It improves your health
  3. It is a major anti-depressant
  4. As Tony Robbins says, “you cannot be fearful and grateful at the same time” and “you cannot be angry and grateful at the same time”
  5. Opens doors to new friends and relationships
  6. Drastically reduces stress related tasks making life much easier
  7. You will live an extraordinary life
  8. You will feel that all your prayers have been answered

So what is gratitude to you?  What is your gratitude practice?  Are you willing to commit to live in gratitude?

My challenge to you is to make gratitude to a top priority.  Go on a 30 day gratitude challenge where you commit to living in gratitude.

Welcome to Mission Fulfillment

Welcome to Mission Fulfillment.  My name is Jamie Sierra.

The purpose of this blog is to make a difference in your life through my journey and everything that I have learned.  To me, the purpose of life is simple.  It is to be happy and to give to one another.  I believe the greatest gift we have is each other.

I know that being happy, successful,  as well as living an extraordinary life is different for everyone.  I also believe that being fulfilled is to constantly make progress (not be perfect) in all areas in our lives, whether it be business-career, relationships, health, finances, spirituality-contribution, and emotions.

Being fulfilled is something we can feel at anytime, including right now.  Yet happiness, fulfillment, success, and joy is an ongoing journey and mission.

I am here to share my great experiences as well as my learning experiences which of course includes my successes and failures.  I will honestly, openly, and transparently share my journey and look forward to having you sharing your journey with me.  I have for the last six years of my life immersed myself in personal development going through books, seminars, and multimedia programs as well as receiving coaching certifications.   Gaining knowledge is great.  Yet if it is not applied and shared, then it is useless.  I am here to apply, give, and share everything that I have learned to not only pass onto others, but to also be an example of excellence.

I thank you for visiting my page and I completely respect and admire you for wanting to take your life to the next level.

With Love and Passion,

Jamie
